Any fun or scary stories about falling asleep while driving? I personally have only drifted off and then had that huge scary feeling as you swerve and suddenly you wake up and start rolling down windows and cranking the stereo. I have even slapped myself in the face hard to wake up... am I insane?
I have a couple more stories if this results an interesting topic...

Re: Falling asleep at the wheel...
Wed, November 10, 2004 - 11:50 PMMy mother fell asleep on her first date with my dad. They ran into a phone poll and I think he had to have stitches in his chin.
This, of course, was before I was around. -

Sat, November 13, 2004 - 6:41 PMWhen I was a kid my family went on a road trip and ALL SIX of us fell asleep in the car, including my mom the driver... Fortunately she just drifted the car into the shoulder of the highway.

Re: Falling asleep at the wheel...
Mon, November 15, 2004 - 12:58 AMWhen I was a tot my parents use to drive me around in the car if I was having trouble going to sleep. Perhaps because of that I fall asleep in the car *very* easily. I've driven on long road trips and done the drift-off/jolt awake thing over and over and over. I've found that playing metal loud and singing along really helps with that.
No scary stories though. -

Re: Falling asleep at the wheel...
Mon, November 15, 2004 - 5:39 PMI had one friend who was up all night partying and decided to drive up to go snowboarding the next morning and ended up 100 yards down an embankment after he fell asleep. And another up all nighter was this weird guy who I think ate a bunch of mushrooms and didnt sleep a wink for like two days at a big outdoor party. I remember seeing him everywhere I went at the party and he was always staring at me. I guess some friends offered him a ride home and decided to let him drive, not knowing he had a suspended license and had been up for days. He hit the side rail after being the last one to fall asleep and ripped the whole side of the car off. What a way to wake up.

Taking the wheel while asleep
Mon, November 15, 2004 - 9:51 PMI don't think this counts...but I had a recurrent dream when I was very young of being forced to drive the car when my mom fell asleep at the wheel...more of a nightmare since I was too young to know how to drive.
